The Scourge of Malaria and Parasites

The Congo has one of the highest annual death rates from malaria of any country in the world. Every year, more than 250,000 children under the age of 5 die of malaria in the Congo. The second major cause of death among children is malnutrition, which can be the direct result of intestinal parasites, diarrhea, or other bacteria-related intestinal diseases.

According to statistics provided by Dr. Francois Kashala of Moma, malaria is the most prevalent disease he treats at Moma Hospital, followed by intestinal parasitic diseases, acute respiratory infection, diarrhea, and acute anemia.

Anemia is typically linked to malaria; while diarrhea, intestinal parasites, and malnutrition are directly linked to the lack of clean water.

What would Moma, the Congo, or Africa as a whole look like if mosquitoes were eradicated and everyone had access to clean water?
