Donations Rebuild Maternity Ward

Mothers-to-be at Moma now have a safer and cleaner place to take care of their newborns, with the opening of the renovated maternity ward. Through the support of many generous donations from Friends of Moma Hospital, the once-neglected ward, first built in 1951, now has a new roof, new paint, new beds, and new mattresses.

Friends of Moma Hospital operates under the philosophy that such projects should use as much local labor as possible. Once the tin for the roof was purchased, local workers repaired the roof and painted it. The windows were repaired and beds constructed in Moma by local caperters whose grandfathers were probably trained by missionaries. The sheets were cut and sewn by local women. With support from many donors and the logistical support of Medical Benevolence Foundation, Moma Hospital is beginning to rise like a phoenix from the ashes of neglect.
